The monarchs...

The eucalyptus grove that's the winter home to thousands of Monarch butterflies is located just south of Pismo Beach. No doubt that is why we saw so many of these delicate creatures flying over the grounds at the hotel. We decided to stop back this year knowing that, once again, it was a few weeks early to see many of them. From November through February there will be thousands of them in that grove of trees. We learned this visit that the variety of Monarchs that come to Pismo have a much longer life span than most - six months as opposed to six weeks.
