Avila Beach/Port San Luis is at the northern end of a marvelous tourist area that includes Avila, Shell, and Pismo Beaches. Always ready to spend as much time close to the water as possible, we decided to drive out onto Hartford Pier and get a different perspective on that stretch of coastline. When we stepped out of the car to take a couple of quick pictures, we heard loud sea-lion barking, but could not see them nearby in the water. It was Larry who peered down a stairway and saw them perched under the pier.
