The highest temperature ever registered in the city of Los Angeles happened on Monday - 113! (Costa Mesa made it to 106.) Over the next couple of days the temps dropped slightly, but the humidity began to creep up. By Friday and Saturday we were having thunderstorms and great soaking downpours.
Now the temps are staying in the low seventies and the skies have been cloudy most of the day. Turned out to be a perfect opportunity, at least comfort-wise, to take in the Newport Beach Sand Castle Competition at Big Corona State Beach. Contestants only had two and a half hours to complete their sand masterpieces. Given that - some were really quite impressive, especially a couple of the real castles, the dragon, and the magnificent "hybred" turtle.
