Mission San Fernando, Rey de Espana...

Margaret can barely resist photographing the gnarled bases and trunks of the California Pepper trees - all unique and strangely beautiful. There were a number of them growing throughout the grounds.

Within the interior courtyard are found, again, the Spanish influenced architecture, the centrally placed fountain, the bell tower, statuary (including, always, a likeness of Father Junipero Serra), the bell on a pole designating El Camino Real, the path that travels the entire length of the mission system, and a marvelous tiled likeness of the state of California.
