For those who have read our "bucket list" you've seen that included is our quest to visit all twenty one of the missions in the California system. On our return from Santa Barbara we had moved the count up to six... We'd been looking at maps, determining those of the remaining fifteen that were close enought to visit on a day-trip. On Saturday, we plotted a course to visit two in our general area, the Mission San Fernando, Rey de Espana, in the Mission Hills town of the San Fernando Valley, and the Mission San Beunaventura in Ventura. We knew we would cover over 250 miles in our day quest - a simple task (or so we thought) on a weekend day when we hoped traffic would be cooperative. And so it was as we traveled to our destinations. Not so much so coming home - we spent over three hours on two freeways returning from Ventura, a 105 mile jaunt! But, the weather was perfect, and even the long drive home didn't dampen our joy at seeing two more pieces of California history.
